IMRB's recently concluded study on the current and future business opportunities on the net, is a comprehensive review of the current state of penetration and use as well as an evaluation of forseeable technological options that could radically impact the future state of adoption. A compendium of statistics on current users, their profile and usage, the study presents a holistic view on the market by examining the role of emerging segments such as cyber cafes, as well as emerging technologies such as internet over cable. Conducted by the eTechnology group of IMRB which has to its credit prestigious and pioneering studies such as a recently concluded study on Y2K compliance in private sector business, Itops the bi-annual hardware tracker, and studies on language software and the IT channel, this study titled "Internet.In.India" attempts to provide the readers with insights on how opportunities on the net can be capitalised as well as barriers and facilitators in mass adoption of internet technology.

Different strokes for different folks

What will drive the future shape of internet in India? Will it be the home market or will it be businesses? If e-commerce is expected to be the primary application of Internet tomorrow will B to C be larger or B to B, or, C to C ! The debate remains unresolved. However authors of the study believe that the home market will dominate the future of Internet in India and they have statistics to prove this.
