LNG Potential Around Ennore, Cochin and Mumbai


Total of three studies conducted. Each study looked at a certain radius around a proposed landfall location for imported LNG.

  • To estimate potential for LNG in the region under study for the period 1998 - 2012
  • To identify promising prospective customers for LNG
  • To conduct a 'Due Diligence' exercise and rate the long term prospects of each customer in their market and environment taking into consideration the constraints peculiar to each case, including an exhaustive study of the company, promoters, finances, profitability etc.

All India Survey of the LPG Market

  • Nation wide study on LPG in 1990
  • Commissioned by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
  • To obtain demand potential for LPG for the period of 1990-2000
    • in terms of number of connections
    • consumption volume
  • The study was also to
    • assess region wise share
    • point out areas needing augmented distribution
    • quantify impact of factors like urbanisation, population growth and growth in income levels on LPG consumption
    • assess savings on alternate fuels as a result of LPG consumption
    • ascertain acceptability of alternate distribution methods

Methodology

  • Conducted across three segments
    • domestic consumers
    • commercial/institutional consumers
    • industrial consumers
  • Covering both current users and non-users
  • Demand was projected by state by district by town size class
  • More than 28,000 interviews were concluded in the study.


LPG for Industrial Usage :

  • To estimate potential for LPG in industry in the North, West and Southern India for the period 1992 to 1997
  • To determine the reasons for acceptance/rejection of LPG by the industrial sector
  • To conduct a price sensitivity study

Methodology

Study on LPG, Naphtha, HSD, LDO, FO, LSHS

  • To estimate potential for the above fuels in the area falling in a radius of 500 km from the port of Paradeep, for the period 1997-2006
  • To estimate current and likely future supply of the above fuels to the region under consideration
  • To profile the major players in the market in terms of capacity, production, infrastructure, future plans etc.

    • Current non-user, planning to purchase LPG in the future. Awareness of the advantages of LPG is not essential.
    • Current user, highly dissatisfied with present supplier and willing to shift to the parallel market. Accept that premium needs to be paid for better service.

Study on Low Sulphur Heavy Stock (LSHS) Oil and Naphtha

  • To determine the existing usage of fuels by various industries
  • To ascertain willingness of industries to shift to LSHS and naphtha which are less polluting
  • Based on this, potential demand for the two fuels
