Method of data collection : Face to face interviews 

Selection of households : 

Selection of households for recruitment of respondents would be done with the help of the clustered random sampling method. Cluster head addresses would be randomly selected from the electoral rolls. Around each cluster head so selected, a fixed number of households would be selected following systematic rules of sampling. 

Respondent definition : 

The respondent would be the actual patient who has suffered from the ailment recently. Patients would be identified through housewives. For the purpose of this study a housewife is defined as a person who is well aware of the incidence of ailments in the household, and contents of the household medicine cabinet. 

Exceptions : 

In the following cases, the respondent would be the housewife herself. 

1. For ailments of infants (0 - 3 years old);  
2. For any other ailment where the actual patient is between 4 to 18 years of age;  
3. For a detailed report on the medicine cabinet of the household
